Qatar Airways × PSG · 2022
A behind-the-scenes film shows a production after the difficult parts have been assembled into a sequence. A live activation has to make those parts work together before anyone knows exactly how the moment will unfold.
This project connected the Qatar Airways, PSG, Neymar and David Beckham Instagram accounts in a coordinated live activation. The activation involved four simultaneous setups, with the accompanying film documenting the work around the event.
One event, several perspectives
The accounts were not simply repeating a finished commercial. The activation had to create a shared experience across separate points of view.
That changes the meaning of timing. In an edit, a pause can be shortened and a reaction moved. In a live experience, coordination has to happen while the audience is present. The production plan and the audience experience become closely connected.
The film behind the live moment
Documenting this kind of work creates a second task. The finished piece needs to communicate the scale of the activation without confusing the documentation with the event itself.
The distinction matters because the visible video is only one part of the assignment. A short behind-the-scenes piece can stand for a larger operation involving talent, several locations or setups, and a shared sequence of cues.
What the project demonstrates
For me, this work sits at the intersection of directing and live coordination. Performance and visual judgment still matter, but the conditions are different from a conventional commercial shoot.
The interesting achievement is making a distributed production feel like one occasion. That is the part worth carrying into the case study: several separate pieces of activity, organised around a moment the audience experiences together.
